I have been in the Tourism Industry for over 30 years and the experience that I have gained during this time, has stood me in good stead with my colleagues.
I am well known in the hospitality and tourism industries. I started learning about hotel management at an early age with my Father and Godfather owning the Queens Hotel in East London.  Yes you guessed it, scrubbing dishes! I then went on to being assistant manager at the Deals Hotel in East London, home to the pop band "The Dealians". I then went on to the Spur Group and was assistant manager at the Cheyenne Spur in East London.
I then set off to Europe and became the manager at Wienerwald in Hamburg Germany ( A sort of Nandos). After 4 years there, I went to Scotland and became the General Manager of the Glasgow Carlton Hotel, then owned by Mr Crawford Jolly.
After returning to South Africa in 1984, I became a coach driver for Translux and PlusBus. It was here that I found an interest in Guiding and went on to become a National Touristguide. I joined Thompsons Tours in 1998 and was with them as the Escorted Tours Manager, the KZN Transport Manager, and manager of the Client Services Department. Yes, I had 3 caps! I left Thompsons at the end of 2007 and went into semi-retirement, while at the same time, managing the Starlight Cruises Shuttles to date.
My Tourism and Hospitality achievements to date include:

• Being a registered National Tourist Guide - in German and English
• Being a registered Tourist Guide Examiner
• Being Hon. Secretary to the National TouristGuide Association (SAARTG)
• Being an office bearer to the Kwazulu chapter of SATSA
• Being an office bearer to the past marketing authority of KwaZulu (TANK)
• Being Hon Secretary to the Natal Tour Operators Association (NATO)
• Managing both the Escorted Tours Division and the Kwazulu Touring Division of the largest Tour Operator in South Africa - Thompsons Tours
• Courses completed include: Defensive Driving, SA Host, Public Relations and Hotel Management
